Job summary

Smith & Wilkinson seeks an AVP-level Underwriter to support a diverse casualty and assumed reinsurance portfolio. You will evaluate opportunities, manage existing programs, and review referrals while collaborating with internal teams and external partners.

Ideal candidates bring 5 years of underwriting experience, with a background in general liability or excess casualty, treaty reinsurance, and program underwriting. Remote candidates nationwide are considered with some travel.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of underwriting experience.
• Experience in general liability or excess casualty preferred.
• Knowledge of treaty reinsurance and program/portfolio underwriting is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate new opportunities and manage existing casualty programs and assumed reinsurance business.
• Review underwriting guidelines and referrals; negotiate program and reinsurance terms.
• Collaborate with Actuarial, Claims and Finance to drive portfolio profitability.
• Coordinate with MGA partners, brokers, and internal teams to support growth.
• Mentor junior underwriters and contribute to team knowledge base.
