Job summary

Salem-Keizer Public Schools is seeking an AVID Tutor for the 2026-27 school year at Claggett Creek Middle School. The role is hourly and temporary, with responsibilities including conducting small-group and individual tutorials to support AVID students and improve college and career readiness.

Tutors facilitate collaborative learning, use Socratic questioning, and coordinate with teachers and the AVID coordinator to monitor student progress. Training dates and schedule are to be determined.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-person tutorial sessions that emphasize collaborative learning and peer teaching.
• Identify concepts to focus on from worksheets and discussions.
• Guide students toward owning their active learning with targeted strategies.
• Assist students in any subject area using AVID materials and resources.
• Provide constructive feedback on student work, online and in-person.
• Support AVID scholars through care and connection.
• Maintain a positive tone and atmosphere in the AVID classroom.
• Assist the AVID coordinator with course outlines, field trips, and parent communication.
• Communicate progress and concerns regularly with the AVID coordinator/teacher.
• Set a standard of personal excellence and high expectations for AVID students.
