Job summary

Salem-Keizer Public Schools seeks AVID Tutors to support the AVID program. Tutors work with AVID students in small groups and individually, applying Socratic questioning and collaborative learning to boost college and career readiness.

Responsibilities include conducting in-person tutorials, providing feedback, supporting students across subjects, and assisting the AVID coordinator with logistics. Interviews are required and may be conducted virtually, in person, or via a one-way video.

Qualifications

• AVID tutors should be excellent role models of motivated, organized, successful college students.
• They should be able to engage secondary students in a supportive manner and advocate for learners.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-person tutorial sessions that emphasize collaborative learning and student teaching.
• Determine concepts to focus on from student worksheets, notes, and discussions.
• Encourage student independence while guiding them with effective strategies.
• Assist students in any subject area using AVID resources and textbooks.
• Provide constructive feedback on student work, online or in-person.
• Support AVID scholars through care and connection.
• Maintain appropriate tone and atmosphere in the AVID classroom.
• Assist the AVID coordinator with tasks such as contacting teachers, field trips, or parents.
• Regularly communicate progress and concerns with the AVID coordinator/teacher.
• Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations.
