Job summary

Salem-Keizer Public Schools seeks AVID Tutors to support students in all academic areas through small-group and individual tutorials. Tutors help students develop college and career readiness, using Socratic questioning and collaborative learning to encourage independent problem-solving.

Tutors work with AVID students in study groups, provide feedback, and coordinate with the AVID coordinator to monitor progress and maintain a positive classroom tone, with interviews as part of the hiring

• AVID tutors should be excellent role models of motivated, organized, successful college students.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-person tutorial sessions that underscore the principle of collaborative learning and the practice of students teaching other students through discussion of class and text notes.
• Determine concepts to focus on from student tutorial worksheets, notes, and discussions.
• Support students in any subject area by using AVID classroom resources and materials.
• Provide constructive feedback online and/or in-person on student work.
• Communicate regularly with the AVID coordinator/teacher regarding student progress.
