Job summary

Salem-Keizer Public Schools is seeking AVID Tutors for the 2026-27 school year at Crossler Middle School. This hourly position offers $17.26 per hour with days/times determined by each school prior to the start of the year.

Tutors work with AVID students in small groups and individually, using Socratic questioning and collaborative learning to boost college and career readiness. Interviews may be virtual, in person, or via one-way video.

Qualifications

• AVID tutors should be excellent role models who are motivated, organized and believe in student success.
• Regular duties include conducting tutorial sessions and guiding collaborative learning.
• Assist students in various subjects with AVID classroom resources and notes.
• Provide constructive feedback on student work and progress.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-person tutorial sessions that emphasize collaborative learning.
• Determine concepts to focus on from worksheets, notes, and discussions.
• Help students take ownership of their learning with guided strategies.
• Assist students in any subject area using textbooks and AVID resources.
• Provide feedback online and/or in-person on student work.
• Support AVID scholars through care and connection.
• Maintain a constructive tone and positive classroom atmosphere.
• Assist the AVID coordinator with scheduling, field trips, and outreach.
• Communicate regularly with the AVID coordinator/teacher on progress.
• Set an example of personal excellence for AVID students.
