Job summary

Salem-Keizer Public Schools is seeking AVID tutors to support students through collaborative tutorial sessions and Socratic questioning, using AVID materials to boost college and career readiness. Tutors will work with secondary students in small groups and individually, under the guidance of the AVID coordinator.

Interviews are required as part of the hiring process, and virtual or in-person options may be offered. Training Date: TBD; Hourly rate: $17.26/hr.

Qualifications

AVID tutors should be excellent role models of motivated, organized, successful college students.
Tutors work in a supportive manner with secondary students and are advocates for student success.

Responsibilities

Conduct in-person tutorial sessions that underscore collaborative learning and student teaching among peers.
Determine from student tutorial worksheets and discussions the concepts to focus on in sessions.
Allow students to take responsibility for their learning while guiding them with strategies.
Assist students in any subject area, using AVID classroom resources and textbooks.
Provide constructive feedback online and/or in-person on student work.
Support AVID scholars through care and connection with students.
Maintain a positive tone and atmosphere in the AVID classroom.
Assist the AVID coordinator as needed, including contacting teachers and organizing schedules.
Communicate regularly with the AVID coordinator/teacher regarding student progress and concerns.
Model personal excellence and high expectations for AVID students to follow.
