Salem-Keizer Public Schools is seeking AVID tutors to support students in achieving college and career readiness.

AVID tutors work with students in study groups and individually, using Socratic questioning and collaborative learning to help them reach their full potential.

Applicants should be motivated, organized, and capable of acting as advocates for students while remaining accountable to teachers; interviews may be virtual or in person.

Qualifications

• AVID tutors should be excellent role models for secondary students.
• Tutores work in a supportive manner with students and report to teachers.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-person tutorial sessions that emphasize collaborative learning and discussion of class notes.
• Determine from student worksheets and discussions the concepts to focus on.
• Allow students to take ownership of their learning while guiding them with AVID strategies.
• Assist students in any subject area using AVID resources.
• Provide constructive feedback on student work, online or in person.
• Support AVID scholars through care and connection to the classroom.
• Maintain the tone and atmosphere of the AVID classroom.
• Assist the AVID coordinator as needed, such as contacting teachers about outlines and schedules.
• Communicate regularly with the AVID coordinator/teacher regarding progress.
