Job summary

Salem-Keizer Public Schools is seeking AVID tutors to support students in the AVID program. Tutors work in small groups and individually, guiding students toward college- and career-readiness through Socratic questioning and collaborative learning.

Tutors serve as positive role models, maintain organized study sessions, and provide feedback on student work. Training date is TBD, and interviews are required as part of the hiring process.

Qualifications

• AVID tutors should be excellent role models of motivated, organized, successful college students who believe that the AVID students will succeed.
• Tutors work with secondary students in a supportive manner and guide them to take ownership of their learning.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-person or virtual tutorial sessions emphasizing collaborative learning.
• Determine focus concepts from student worksheets and discussions.
• Guide students to actively learn and become independent learners.
• Assist students in any subject area using AVID resources and textbooks.
• Provide constructive feedback on student work, online or in person.
• Support AVID scholars through care and connection in the classroom.
• Maintain a positive tone and atmosphere in the AVID classroom.
• Assist AVID coordinator with outreach, scheduling, and communication as needed.
• Report student progress and areas of concern to the AVID coordinator/teacher.
• Set an example of personal excellence for AVID students to follow.
