Job summary

Salem-Keizer Public Schools is seeking an AVID Tutor to support AVID students through small-group and individual tutorials. Tutors use Socratic questioning and collaborative learning to help students progress toward college and career readiness.

Tutors work with AVID students in subject groups, facilitating collaborative learning and helping students develop study skills and independent learning strategies. Training and interview participation are required.

Qualifications

• AVID tutors should be excellent role models of motivated, organized, successful college students who believe that the AVID students will succeed.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-person tutorial sessions that underscore collaborative learning and students teaching each other through discussion.
• Determine concepts to focus on from student worksheets, notes and discussions.
• Encourage active learning while guiding students to work independently.
• Assist students in any subject area, using AVID materials and resources.
• Provide constructive feedback on student work, online or in person.
• Support AVID scholars through care and connection and maintain classroom tone.
• Assist the AVID coordinator with tasks such as contacting teachers, field trips, and parent outreach.
• Regularly communicate student progress and concerns with the AVID coordinator/teacher.
• Model personal excellence and high expectations for AVID students to follow.
