AVID Tutor Position Summary: Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a college readiness acceleration system for middle and high school students that supports student preparation for college through an academic elective course that teaches necessary learning skills, reinforces the academic core, and encourages and supports students in rigorous courses. The AVID System annually provides more than 30,000 educators with training and methodologies that develop students' critical thinking, literacy, and math skills across all content areas throughout the entire campus, in what we call School wide AVID.
General Definition of Work: AVID tutors support secondary school students enrolled in the AVID elective course by providing direct, collaborative instructional support to students in tutorial groups with the assistance of an AVID elective course teacher. AVID tutors will be active participants in the learning, growth, and personal development of students with the goal of preparing students to successfully attend college and will act as role models for students. Tutors will work 2 days per week, from September through May.
Requirements: Available TuesdayandThursday during the school day. Current enrollment in college courses or Bachelor's degree preferred. Must have reliable transportation.
