Job summary

Burns & McDonnell’s Aviation & Federal group seeks a Staff Estimator to drive preconstruction cost estimates for design-build, design-only, and program management. You’ll work from concept through subcontract award to support complex projects.

This role collaborates across clients, procurement, subcontractors, and operations, building proposals, analyzing historical data, pricing materials, and coordinating bid packages for successful submissions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field and 3 years of direct project estimating experience.
• Applicable experience may substitute the degree.
• Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with Quotesoft, Accubid, Oracle, and PowerBI preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
• Ability to handle large volumes of work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Consult with clients, procurement, subcontractors, vendors, or others to discuss estimates.
• Interface with Procurement and Operations to obtain support for cost estimates.
• Analyze historical data and suggest improvements to estimating procedures.
• Identify cost trends to aid management in cost reduction.
• Assist with analyzing completed projects to compare estimates to actual costs.
• Ensure estimates comply with methodology and quality standards.
• Review plans, specs, and scope for risk issues and mitigation.
• Assemble material and labor costs for proposals and bids.
• Prepare bid packages and present estimating information at pre-bid meetings.
• Evaluate subcontractor quotes, RFPs, and scope clarity.
• Develop estimating strategy and price indirect and general conditions.
• Review fee, contingency, escalation, and risk items with lead estimator.
• Price value engineering options for submissions.
