Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a staff estimator within its Aviation & Federal construction group to develop preconstruction cost estimates from early concept through subcontract award. You will craft proposals for design-build, design-only, and program management initiatives and ensure estimates align with company methodologies.

Responsibilities include client and subcontractor consultations, data analysis, bid package preparation, and presenting estimating strategies to stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field with 3 years of direct project estimating experience.
• Or applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
• Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with cost estimating software such as Quotesoft, Accubid, Oracle, and PowerBI preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
• Ability to handle large volumes of work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work independently or in groups, think creatively and analytically, and make quick and sound decisions.

Responsibilities

• Consult with clients, procurement, subcontractors, vendors, or others to discuss and formulate estimates.
• Interface with Procurement and Operations to obtain support and commitment to the cost estimates.
• Analyze historical data and provide improvement recommendations to estimating procedures.
• Identify cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvement.
• Assemble material and labor costs for clients and proposals for construction projects.
• Prepare and deliver bid packages to subcontractors.
• Present estimating information and attend pre-bid meetings.
• Develop and present estimating strategy and plan.
