Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Denver seeks an Assistant Construction Manager to support Aviation and Federal teams on commercial design-build EPC projects. You will assist the Construction Manager with safety, quality, schedule and cost management, coordinating with subcontractors, managing documentation, and interfacing with clients to ensure successful project execution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Construction, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field and 3 years relevant construction experience required.
  • Applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Access).
  • Experience with document control, scheduling, cost control and project management software is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle large volumes of work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Multiple years of experience on construction project sites or executing program management in aviation, commercial, energy, government, manufacturing, oil & gas, process, transmission & distribution, transportation, or water preferred.
  • A basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Must be able to meet the company's driving requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to safety programs, train and enforce policies while managing safety performance on the project team.
  • Collaborate with the Project Management team to build client relationships and interface for proposals and project items.
  • Assist in development of internal/external risk reviews with PM team and consult with Legal Department as required.
  • Develop and implement Project Execution Plan, QA Plan, Safety & Health Plan, Subcontracting Plan, Staffing Plan, Org Chart, and Procurement Plan.
  • Contribute to negotiation, approval and execution of prime contracts, subcontracts, POs, and change orders.
  • Develop project plan for site mobilization/demobilization and support CM or Site Manager.
  • Secure applicable project permits required for the project.
  • Support bidder registration and pre-qualification efforts for the project.
  • Prepare RFPs, support scope of work development, bid/selection, and contract documents for subcontractor/client awards.
  • Support implementation of project specs, drawing releases, and design changes.
  • Execute downstream contract administration: RFI, submittals, meeting minutes, change management, and claims mitigation.
  • Support project cost reporting, scheduling, WBS, project set-up and closeout, and field progress tracking.
  • Prepare information for and report project status, risks, schedule, costs, and cash flows at meetings; develop meeting minutes.
  • Support invoicing processes for prime/subcontractor/client/supplier.
  • Establish, review and implement project documentation and filing systems.
  • Verify insurance, licenses, taxes/duties, and securities meet project requirements.
  • Support safety, quality, progress and financial audits and assessments.
  • Facilitate materials receiving/management, inventory, storage and transport.
  • Collaborate with Superintendents to verify subcontractor compliance.
  • Facilitate turnover docs, retention, warranty and close-out processes.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Assist with development of labor agreements and onboarding of craft supervision.
  • Analyze composite crew rates to determine labor/equipment costs.
  • Staff projects with field operations/hr; monitor labor burdens and classifications.
  • Maintain craft classifications and progression records.
  • Uphold standards of craft competency/training.
  • Estimate and manage craft install unit rates and production to ensure EV/schedule/cost metrics.
  • Assist with craft training.
  • Manage construction equipment inventory to complete projects.
