Job summary

Tidewater Community College in Norfolk is seeking an Installation & Repair Technician to support a multi-vendor voice, video, and data network. You will install, test, and repair Audio Visual and microcomputer devices and provide first level user support to staff, faculty, and students.

This essential, full-time role requires strong PC skills, knowledge of LAN concepts, and the ability to work independently or as part of a cross-departmental team. Evening or weekend work may be required.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of personal computers, operating systems, peripheral devices.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP and large WAN/LAN environments.
• Experience with antivirus and network security policies.
• Ability to install, troubleshoot, and repair desktops and peripherals.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform on-site and in-shop inspection, installation, testing, and repair of AV and microcomputer devices.
• Provide first level user support to staff, faculty, and students.
• Maintain security and confidentiality of information or data.
• Document work and coordinate with Telecom, Network, and Support teams.
• Assist in setup and maintenance of network interfaces (Ethernet, etc.).
• Test wiring and IP telephone equipment for voice, data, and video services.
• Test AV equipment (Control Systems, Amps, TVs, cameras, microphones).
