Job summary

Rivian is seeking a Vehicle Operator Specialist to join its Autonomy Systems Validation team in Chicago, IL. You will train, coach, and lead operators, drive prototype vehicles on varied roads, and ensure safe, efficient testing operations across shifts.

You will oversee vehicle prep, data offloading, and shift handovers, while mentoring peers and maintaining high safety standards in a dynamic testing environment.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in automotive driving or AV testing.
• Experience coaching or mentoring peers.
• Strong communication and safety focus.
• Willingness to travel up to 20%.
• Able to work 6–8 hour shifts on busy floors.

Responsibilities

• Provide operator training and mentorship on driving and safety.
• Coach operators on disengagement protocols and driving procedures.
• Oversee vehicle prep, data logging, and shift handovers.
• Lead on-shift floor for driver questions and safety.
• Drive prototype test vehicles in autonomous, semi-autonomous, and manual modes on roads and test facilities.
• Perform pre/post-trip inspections and sensor calibrations.
• Coordinate maintenance and fleet charging to maximize availability.
• Document post-drive reports and engineering notes.
