Job summary

Penn State University’s Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) is seeking a Robotics Engineer focused on autonomy and emerging tech for undersea and unmanned systems. You will work on autonomy, sensors, and payloads, and support Navy-sponsored projects with cross-disciplinary engineers in a lab setting in State College, PA.

The role emphasizes software development, simulation, testing, and collaboration across the software and hardware teams, with DoD sponsorship and opportunities for field testing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science required.
• 5+ years of relevant experience (for higher level) or 2+ years (for intermediate) as described.
• Experience with software for autonomous/unmanned systems is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop and integrate autonomy software for UxVs, including simulation, field testing, and deployment.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across sensors, navigation, and communications.
• Lead/participate in SIL, HIL, and on-water testing of prototype architectures.
• Apply systems engineering principles across requirements, architecture, design, and verification.
