Job summary

The Pennsylvania State University in State College, PA invites applications for the Department Head for Autonomy and Emerging Technology within ARL's SSW division. The role is on-site with periodic travel to remote locations and may be filled as Research and Development Engineer or non-tenure Research Faculty.

Lead autonomy and unmanned systems R&D programs, mentor engineers, manage resources, and collaborate with Navy sponsors to shape new directions in undersea autonomy capabilities.

Qualifications

• Past success leading technical teams and programs.
• Strong decision-making skills in complex technical environments.
• Autonomy for unmanned systems including architectures, behaviors, mission planning, and standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for autonomy and emerging technology in the Subsea and Seabed domain.
• Oversee UxV programs and multi-disciplinary teams across navigation, sensing, and environment modeling.
• Mentor engineers and researchers in autonomy, control, and environmental modeling.
• Manage resources, facilities, and software infrastructure to support program needs.
• Collaborate with ARL departments and sponsors to shape new research directions.
• Engage Navy sponsors and stakeholders to present advancements and test results.
