Job summary

AltaGas is seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist for the Blythe plant to own all environmental, health and safety functions with high autonomy and impact. This role shapes a proactive safety culture and advances programs that support our Safety value.

You will refine programs, lead inspections and risk assessments, conduct training for employees and contractors, and coordinate incident investigations and emergency drills to ensure a safe, compliant operating environment.

Qualifications

• EHS experience, ideally in power generation or heavy manufacturing.
• Understanding of EPA, OSHA, and environmental regulations.
• Ability to foster a positive work environment and uphold safety and ethical standards.
• Ability to work in a power plant environment, including climbing, confined spaces, PPE use, and varied weather conditions.
• Willingness to support on-call needs during outages or incidents.
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related field preferred.
• Preferred certifications: CSP, CIH, or ASP.

Responsibilities

• Maintain EPA, OSHA, NERC, and state/local environmental permits (Title V, SWPP, SPCC).
• Prepare and submit environmental reports, including waste management and air emissions.
• Maintain OSHA 300 logs and all required incident documentation.
• Develop and implement safety programs (LOTO, Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, Arc Flash).
• Conduct facility inspections, risk assessments, and behavior-based safety observations.
• Identify hazards and lead corrective and preventative actions.
• Deliver safety orientations and specialized training for employees and contractors.
• Lead safety committee meetings and promote a strong safety culture.
• Conduct root-cause investigations for accidents and near misses and recommend actions to prevent recurrence.
• Lead the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and coordinate emergency drills.
• Oversee contractor safety and ensure compliance with all site standards.
• In some cases, perform additional duties as assigned by the Plant Manager.
