Job summary

SMP Automotive Systems Alabama Inc. seeks a Quality Engineer – Warranty to analyze warranty claims, identify recurring issues, and drive corrective actions to improve product performance and reduce costs.

You will partner with customers, plant teams, suppliers, and QA to reduce warranty expenses and elevate quality metrics. The role requires strong analytical skills, experience with IATF 16949, and the ability to translate warranty data into actionable improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial/Mechanical Engineering or related field; or Economics/Business Admin with relevant experience.
• Working knowledge of automotive quality management systems (IATF 16949).
• Experience with root-cause analysis and structured problem-solving (8D, 5-Why, Ishikawa).
• Strong data interpretation, trend identification, and actionable recommendations.
• Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; ability to develop reports and communicate findings.

Responsibilities

• Warranty Claims Management: monitor and analyze claims, investigate recurring issues, document from receipt to resolution.
• Warranty Cost Reduction: identify drivers, evaluate trends, lead cost-reduction initiatives.
• Customer Scorecards and Performance Metrics: monitor KPIs and communicate improvements to management.
• Root-Cause Analysis: lead cross-functional investigations using 8D, 5-Why, Ishikawa.
• Corrective and Preventive Actions: develop and follow up on preventive actions.
• Warranty KPI Management: track claim frequency and cost trends, monitor progress.
• Customer Claim Disputes and Recovery: review disputes and work with teams to resolve.
• Data Analysis and Reporting: create trend analyses and cost forecasts.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: coordinate with Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, suppliers.
• Quality Documentation: develop control plans and PFMEA; participate in PFMEA reviews.
• Customer Support: provide warranty analysis reports and participate in technical reviews.
• Quality Systems and Compliance: support IATF16949 and customer requirements.
• Continuous Improvement: identify process improvements to reduce warranty costs.
