Job summary

The City of Peoria, AZ, Public Works Department, invites applications for a Fleet Maintenance Technician to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on a wide range of gasoline and diesel vehicles, construction and maintenance equipment, and aerial trucks.

You will diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, air conditioning and powertrain systems, ensure safety compliance, and contribute to the reliability and readiness of our fleet in a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalency required.
• 2-4 years of experience in the same or similar role preferred.
• Possession of 4 ASE certificates or ability to obtain within 1 year after hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on gasoline and diesel vehicles, construction and maintenance equipment, and aerial trucks.
• Diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, air conditioning and powertrain systems.
• Assist with welding and fabrication tasks as needed and support multiple City divisions.

Education

• High school graduation or equivalency.

Experience

• 2-4 years’ experience. Considerable previous experience required in the same or similar previous positions.

Physical Demands

• Work requires heavy physical exertion and effort.

Licenses and Certifications

• Valid Arizona Class “B” Driver’s License within 6 months of hire.


• Possession of 4 Automotive Service Excellence (A.S.E.) Certificates, or ability to obtain within 1 year after hire.

Join the Fleet Maintenance team as they provide vital support to Public Works, Police Department, Water Services, and numerous other divisions. This position involves performing preventive maintenance and repair on a variety of gasoline and diesel powered equipment; including light and heavy-duty vehicles, construction and maintenance equipment, and aerial trucks. This includes the diagnosis and repair of electrical, hydraulic, air conditioning, and powertrain systems or components.

The ideal candidate for this position will have

• A solid automotive or heavy-duty equipment repair background.


• Welding and/or fabrication experience.


• A desire to further one’s technical skills in a team learning environment and work on a variety of equipment.
