Essential Functions & Supervisory Responsibilities
Participate in training program designed to teach skills required for the position of Automotive Technician Assistant, including but not limited to:
- Diagnosis and repair of City vehicles and equipment.
- Repairs of vehicle and equipment components, including lighting systems, brake systems, audio equipment, and other malfunctioning components.
- Completes work order for each vehicle and unit serviced, listing items replaced and materials used; notifies supervisor of repair and replacement requirements.
- Performs routine preventive maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications, and maintenance checks on vehicles and equipment.
- Parks and retrieves vehicles currently under service as necessary.
- Enters time and maintenance records into computer system.
Essential Functions
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of a high school or vocational-technical school course in automotive or diesel mechanics and one (1) year of experience as an automotive technician or technician assistant. Equivalent combinations of education, interests, and experience will be considered.
Additional Requirements
- Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.

Secondary Duties
- Order repair parts and materials required for shop repairs from the Fleet Department Parts Storeroom.
- Assist with brake replacements, suspension assemblies, and wheel alignments.
- Sharpen, repair, and replace cutting edges on machinery.
- Prepare new vehicles and equipment for service by installing decals, wiring, and mounting equipment.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of operation and maintenance principles of vehicles and machinery.
- Familiarity with occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
- Skill in using diagnostic and mechanical adjustment equipment.
- Skill in operating various light vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to assist in diagnosing vehicle malfunctions.
- Ability to keep accurate records and complete work orders.
- Ability to read and write.
- Ability to withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and carry weights up to 75 pounds.
Physical Requirements
Criminal History check, Drug/Alcohol screening, Medical evaluation, Background check, and Motor Vehicle Report check are required.
City of Little Rock temporary employees, volunteers, or interns do not receive additional benefits.
