Essential Functions & Supervisory Responsibilities
Participate in training program designed to teach skills required for position of Automotive Technician Assistant, including but not limited to:
- Diagnosis and repair of City vehicles and equipment.
- Repairs of vehicle and equipment components, including lighting systems, brake systems, audio equipment and other malfunctioning components.
- Completes work order for each vehicle and unit serviced, listing items replaced and materials used; notifies supervisor of repair and replacement requirements.
- Performs routine preventive maintenance services such as oil changes, lubrications and maintenance checks on vehicles and equipment.
- Parks and retrieve vehicles currently under service as necessary.
- Enters time and maintenance records into computer system.
Essential Functions
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of a high school or vocational-technical school course in automotive or diesel mechanics and one (1) year of experience as an automotive technician or technician assistant. Equivalent combinations of education, interests and experience will be considered.
Additional Requirements
- Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.

Application Requirements
SECONDARY DUTIES
- Orders repair parts and materials required for shop repairs from the Fleet Department Parts Storeroom.
- Provides assistance with brake replacements, suspension assemblies and front and rear wheel alignment procedures.
- Sharpens, repairs, and replaces cutting edges on mowing and cutting machinery.
- Prepares new vehicles and equipment for service by installing decals, wiring ancillary equipment, and mounting add-on equipment.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance principles of vehicles and/or machinery.
- Familiarity with occupational hazards and safety precautions of automotive and related equipment.
- Skill in the care and use of hand and power tools.
- Skill in the use of diagnostic and mechanical adjustment equipment.
- Skill in the operation of automatic and standard (manual) transmission automobiles.
- Ability to assist in the diagnosis of vehicle malfunctions.
- Ability to keep accurate records and complete work orders.
- Ability to read and write.
- Ability to operate various types of light vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to note defects, damage, and wear in vehicle systems and automotive/equipment components.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to lift 100 pounds and carry weights up to 75 pounds.
