A leading company in Akron is seeking a skilled vehicle maintenance technician to perform routine and semi-skilled maintenance on automotive and construction-related equipment. The role involves diagnostics, repairs, and ensuring safety practices are followed. Candidates should have a high school diploma and two years of relevant experience. A valid CDL is required but can be obtained post-employment.
General Overview:
Under general supervision, performs routine and semi-skilled vehicle maintenance duties, inspects vehicles, and assists with or overhauls gas/diesel automotive and construction-related equipment. Performs other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
Any combination of training and work experience indicating possession of the skills, knowledge, and abilities listed below. Completion of high school or equivalent education plus two (2) years of experience in automotive service work. Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Basic knowledge of automotive repair techniques, safety practices and procedures, materials and tools used in automotive and equipment repair, and cleaning materials and equipment.
Ability to perform automotive diagnostic techniques, recognize safety warnings, follow oral and written instructions, cooperate with co-workers, and use common hand tools, motorized, and basic test equipment. (*Indicates skills developed after employment).
Work Environment:
The work environment involves exposure to hazards associated with wastewater treatment plant equipment, chemicals, and automotive maintenance under various weather conditions. Employees will be exposed to cleaning solvents, gasoline, and lubricants. Must be able to travel to various work sites.
Physical Demands:
Employees must demonstrate physical fitness and agility, including lifting, sitting, walking, standing, bending, pushing, pulling, talking, hearing, and seeing. Physical exertion such as prolonged bending, stooping, lifting (up to 75 pounds), and working on uneven terrain is required.
Job Duties:
Perform routine maintenance (e.g., lubricating, checking oil, changing filters, checking batteries and radiators, recharging batteries, draining radiators, replacing headlights, changing tires); perform road service calls; clean and maintain vehicle facilities, equipment, and tools. Conduct minor and semi-skilled repairs (e.g., replacing brake shoes, seals, shocks, exhaust systems, spark plugs, setting timing). Assist with or replace engines and perform engine rebuilds or small engine overhauls. Maintain records of vehicle service and repairs.
Note: CDL is not immediately required but must be obtained.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 3:00 pm. Overtime may be required.
Work Location: Operations Management Facility - 33 Cole Avenue Extension, Akron, Ohio 44301.
Pre-Employment Testing Requirements: Drug and alcohol testing, criminal background check, and driving record check.
