Job summary

Texas State Technical College seeks a Lab Assistant to support automotive/auto collision instruction in classrooms, labs, and shops. You will assist faculty, help students with materials, tutor on demand, and grade assessments, while preparing labs and maintaining equipment.

You will participate in safety monitoring, inventory management, and basic repairs, enabling smooth hands-on training for students and ensuring a productive learning environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associates degree preferred in related field.
• Mechanical background and ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Assist faculty in the classroom, laboratory, computer lab, or shop as directed.
• Assist students with materials and exam preparation.
• Provide tutoring and supplemental instruction as needed.
• Grade papers, exercises, and tests using predetermined criteria.
• Process and maintain student records and files.
• Prepare the lab for class and set up/ disassemble lab experiments.
• Test new lab equipment for quality and accuracy.
• Perform routine maintenance and repair on lab equipment.
• Aid in constructing training aids.
• Initiate requisitions for consumable supplies and repairs.
• Prepare consumable materials for classroom, lab and shop exercises.
• Maintain inventory and assure security of supplies and equipment.
• Assist in helping student workers as assigned.
• Monitor instructional areas for safety conditions.
• Operate motor vehicles for TSTC business.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
