• Forklift Operator Certification.
• An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework, and experience may qualify a candidate.

Overview

The Lab Technician, Automotive Technology performs general duties that are technical in nature in a specialized area. This role maintains tools and equipment, performs diagnostic service and minor repairs, and supports the automotive laboratory operations.

Essential Responsibilities

• Laboratory Technical Support: Distributes tools and equipment to students for classroom and laboratory use, documents disbursements, and stores tools after use. Cleans tools, equipment, and the lab area. Opens and closes the Lab at shift end and ensures equipment is stored properly to secure the Automotive Lab. Verifies tools, equipment, and training aids are functional and performs needed diagnostic services and minor repairs. Replaces tools and equipment as necessary. Prepares new training aids and donated vehicles for laboratory use. Performs periodic safety maintenance on automotive lab equipment and coordinates with college-approved contractors for repairs. Performs vehicle preventive maintenance and routine maintenance of batteries, fuel levels, tire pressure, and related tasks. Updates automotive computerized equipment.

• Inventory & Clerical Support: Maintains and updates inventory of tools, special service kits, equipment, stock items, and vehicles. Monitors disbursements, orders needed items, and obtains bid offers on new equipment. Ensures proper handling and disposal of waste oil and other hazardous materials using college-approved methods. Maintains accurate records and completes required documentation, including inventory reports, equipment maintenance records, work orders, and requisitions.

• Program Support: Assists instructors, obtains and returns training materials, sets up vehicles and other training aids, and arranges chairs, tables, and equipment. Assists with breaking down labs and putting away tools and training aids when classes end, if necessary. Answers routine questions, gives automotive lab tours, and provides general information to maintain good public and student relations.
