Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking an Automation (Instrumentation & Controls) Engineer to join our Irvine, CA office in 2027. You will work with a team of engineers on a diverse portfolio of public, federal, and industrial projects, contributing to SCADA, instrumentation, and control network design.

The role supports testing, startup, and configuration of basic I&C systems, with travel up to 10% and opportunities for professional growth within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of instrumentation, controls and related systems designs.
• Excellent communication skills and basic MS Office knowledge.
• CAD drafting experience in 3D/4D CAD environments and basic HMI/PLC capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Under direct supervision, creates basic instrumentation, controls and related systems designs using 3D and 4D drafting programs.
• Reviews simple component level shop drawings.
• Creates basic HMI designs, PLCs, reports, etc.
• Performs other duties as required.
• Assists with testing and startup of instrumentation, controls and related systems.
