Job summary

BorgWarner in Arden, NC is seeking an Automation and Controls Engineering Intern to support PLC programming, commissioning, validation, and troubleshooting under mentorship. You will document results, build training materials, and collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and IT to improve reliability.

Ideal candidates are pursuing a Bachelor’s in Mechatronics, Electrical, Electronics, Automation, Robotics, or Computer Science, with PLC exposure and basic scripting skills.

Qualifications

• Working towards a Bachelor’s degree in the listed engineering disciplines.
• Academic or project-based exposure to PLC concepts and logic (Ladder, Function Block, or Structured Text).
• Basic understanding of sensors, actuators, motors/drives, and control fundamentals.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and follow troubleshooting steps.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.

Responsibilities

• Assist with PLC programming tasks and updating tags.
• Support commissioning and validation activities and document test results.
• Assist with troubleshooting automation equipment with a mentor.
• Assist with basic industrial networking and device communications checks.
• Document system configurations, troubleshooting notes, and standard work instructions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support production and reliability.
• Support continuous improvement by gathering data and proposing small enhancements.
• Follow all BorgWarner safety rules and EHS requirements.
