Modine Manufacturing Company in Racine, WI, is seeking an Automation and Controls Engineer to lead our Industry 4.0 journey. You will drive the automation roadmap across global facilities, standardize technologies, and integrate smart systems with a focus on continuous improvement and capital projects.

Strong PLC/SCADA/Ignition hands-on experience is required. The role emphasizes electrical standards, safety compliance, and collaboration with IT to secure OT networks while delivering measurable

Qualifications

• BSEE is required.
• 5+ years as Automation and Controls Engineer in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with AutoCAD Electrical.
• Experience with troubleshooting and program modifications on PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Emerson, Siemens).
• Experience with Ignition (tags, dashboards, historizing data) and IT/OT protocols.
• Strong project management and cross-functional leadership; able to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Desired - familiar with UL and CE standards.
• Desired - experience with Vision System programming, Robot programming (Fanuc), and SQL.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain an Automation/Industry 4.0 roadmap aligned with strategic business goals.
• Identify components and technologies to standardize across facilities.
• Develop engineering specifications for electrical control systems and equipment modifications.
• Recommend and initiate improvements or replacement of equipment which fails to meet operating standards.
• Partner with the IT department to ensure OT networks and connected manufacturing equipment are secure and adhere to corporate cybersecurity policies.
• Drive continuous improvement by modifying PLC logic and optimizing vision-guided robotics and motion control systems.
• Act as the technical escalation point for plant maintenance to diagnose and resolve complex electrical and programming malfunctions.
• Apply Industry 4.0 and predictive maintenance techniques to enhance real-time monitoring and machine uptime.
• Oversee machine safety risk assessments and ensure all control systems comply with safety standards.
• Maintain electrical drawings, schematics, and documentation for all equipment.
• Guide electrical spare parts inventory and assist in installing new control equipment with maintenance teams.
