Job summary

Caterpillar’s Electric Power Division is seeking an engineer to design, develop, and implement generator control switchgear systems. You will deliver automation and control solutions for complex power systems, working independently and with teams from concept through commissioning.

The role emphasizes retrofit and new system projects, PLC/HMI programming, and collaboration with CAD for wiring diagrams. Travel and DoD SkillBridge considerations may apply; remote U.S.-based work with 35–50% travel.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred.
Experience with automation and controls including PLC-based systems.
Ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints.
Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background checks.
Experience cross-functional with engineers, contractors, and end users.
Minimum 2 years with degree or 4 years without a degree.

Responsibilities

Identify retrofit opportunities with Dealer and Factory teams.
Execute design, programming, testing, and commissioning of LV/MV generator control systems.
Convert legacy PLC programs to current platforms and validate performance.
Develop and modify PLC and HMI applications using standard templates.
Partner with CAD designers to produce wiring and assembly drawings.
Train and support technicians, customers, and internal teams on operation and troubleshooting.
Submit project documentation, reports, and expenses in a timely manner.
