Job summary

BOS Innovations in Lexington, KY is seeking an Applications Engineering Specialist to partner with Sales and customers to craft automated concepts and compelling quotations. You will review requirements, analyze processes, design mechanical concepts, estimate BOMs, and coordinate with suppliers and internal teams to ensure accurate costing and strong proposals.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.
• 4+ years of experience in applications engineering, mechanical design, automation, systems integration, or custom machinery.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks with experience developing mechanical concepts, layouts, and estimated BOMs for automation projects.
• Strong understanding of industrial automation systems, manufacturing processes, and custom machine design.
• Experience reviewing customer specifications and developing technical concepts, quotations, and cost estimates for engineered automation solutions.

Responsibilities

• Follow the Sales processes to create quotations and win business for BOS
• Full review of the application and development of a professionally packaged quotation containing a high-level of detail
• Analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of customer production processes and develop strategies for enhancing them to offer better solutions
• Review and analyze customer documents, lead site visits, and ensure concept meets specifications and budgets
• Develop mechanical design concepts and estimated BOMs at cell and station levels
• Coordinate with customer technical counterparts to understand needs and build relationships
• Lead collaboration with BOS engineering for additional support
• Support accurate costing for quotes by estimating time and material requirements
• Assist in presenting quotes to customers to explain concepts and budgets
• Deliver professional sales presentations and occasionally tour customers/prospects
• Attend project kickoffs and concept reviews to explain budget and scope
• Maintain timesheets and weekly expense reports for cost tracking
• Organize quote folders and project files and review past projects for improvements
• Develop and maintain tools/instruments/software/supplies for the team
• Identify quoting/process inefficiencies and drive improvements
• Research new technologies to provide the best concept for customers
• Maintain knowledge of automated products and applications
• Provide training and mentorship to BOS employees
