Job summary

Cox Automotive Inc. is seeking a body shop prep technician to prepare repaired and primed panels for refinishing, ensuring sand scratches and imperfections are removed before topcoat application.

You will follow SOPs, inspect repairs, mask adjacent areas, and ensure dust-free surfaces prior to finishing. The role emphasizes safety and uses abrasives, power tools, and hand tools in a controlled environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• 1 year of body shop and/or prepping experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
• Ability to drive vehicles with standard and automatic transmission.
• Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, talk and hear.
• Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat, and climb.
• Ability to lift 1-15 pounds and perform repetitive motions.
• Vision abilities include close, distance, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

• Inspect all repairs and primed panels for proper body repairs and primer application.
• Review incomplete or improper repairs with management before proceeding.
• Mask adjacent panels from scratches or damage before final sanding.
• Prepare properly repaired and primed panels (including "blend" panels) for final finish application.
• Finish panels using abrasives, power tools, and hand tools as directed in SOP.
• Avoid over-sanding (cutting through the finish) or under-sanding (leaving sand scratches).
• Clean and remove dust and particles from repair/refinish panels prior to moving vehicles.
• Visibly demonstrate safety commitment by following all safety and health procedures.
• Actively participate in support of safety activities aligned with Safety Excellence.
• Assist supervisor in training and orienting new employees, perform housekeeping duties, etc.
