Job summary

Gwinnett County Public Schools is seeking a dedicated Paraprofessional Educator to support teachers in general and special education classrooms, assist with supervision and instruction of students with special needs, and participate in IEP meetings as needed.

Responsibilities include adapting activities, providing first aid, administering tests, supporting daily living tasks, and collaborating with teachers to monitor progress and reinforce IEP objectives across settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide support to the instructional program within an assigned classroom with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision, care, and instruction of special needs students in the regular education classroom, special education classroom, community, and assisting in implementing plans for instruction, monitoring student behavior during non-classroom time, providing information to appropriate school personnel, and attending IEP meetings.
• Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to reinforce IEP objectives.
• Administer immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional.
• Administer tests, homework, and make-up work to support teachers.
• Assist medically fragile or physically disabled students with personal hygiene.
• Assist students with disabilities with grooming, community accessibility, and other areas.
• Confer with teachers on progress and implementing IEP objectives.
• Implement and collect data under supervision of assigned teacher and behavioral plans.
• Monitor special education students to provide a safe learning environment.
• Perform record keeping and support functions for the teacher.
• Provide instruction to students in various activities to reinforce instructional objectives and IEP plans.
• Respond to emergencies and apply crisis intervention procedures.
• Assist with monitoring duties (hallways, lunchroom, etc.).
