Job summary

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED and complete 48 college hours or hold an associate degree; a state-approved assessment is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• Complete 48 hours at an institution of higher education.
• Obtain an associate’s (or higher) degree.

Responsibilities

• Adapts classroom activities, assignments and materials under supervision to support students in various environments.
• Administers tests and assignments to support lead teachers in the special education classroom.
• Assist special education teachers with lesson plan creation for assigned students.
• Assist medically fragile or physically disabled students with personal hygiene.
• Communicate with staff and parents to evaluate progress and IE(P) objectives.
• Implement lesson plans created with the special education teacher.
• Implement behavioral plans designed by IEP teams to reinforce learning.
• Maintain instructional materials to ensure availability and compliance.
• Monitor students during various school activities to ensure safety.
• Provide instruction in individual and group activities to reinforce objectives and ensure success.
• Attend meetings and in-service training to stay informed on job functions.
• May administer first aid as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
