Job summary

Gersh Autism Academy in Brooklyn seeks an Assistant Principal to join our leadership team and support our mission of empowering students aged 5-21 with autism to thrive. You will work with faculty, staff, and families to provide a structured, inclusive learning environment.

The role requires strong leadership, problem-solving, and a commitment to data-driven instruction, evidence-based practices, and positive behavior supports.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Education, Special Education or Educational Leadership.
• State certification in school administration or eligible.
• 3–5 years in special education, preferably with autism.
• 3+ years in education management or leadership.
• Strong leadership, organizational and communication skills.
• Experience developing IEPs, behavior intervention plans, data-driven instruction.
• Knowledge of evidence-based practices for autism.
• Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills.
• Familiarity with compliance standards in special education.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Principal in school administration and management.
• Process employee timecards via payroll system.
• Supervise instructional programs and observe classes.
• Participate in annual review meetings and document findings.
• Mentor teachers and support staff with professional development.
• Foster positive school culture and social-emotional learning.
• Coordinate with therapists to align annual review reports.
• Monitor student progress and recommend interventions.
• Assist scheduling, resource allocation, and operations.
• Ensure compliance with special education regulations.
• Engage with parents and community stakeholders.
• Handle disciplinary matters with restorative practices.
• Participate in events and continuous improvement.
