Job summary

Gersh Autism in Brooklyn seeks an Assistant Principal to lead with empathy, equity, and strong instructional leadership for students aged 5-21.

You will collaborate with teachers, therapists, and families to sustain a safe, inclusive learning environment, supervise programs, mentor staff, manage annual reviews and IEP processes, and drive data-informed decisions to improve academic, social, and emotional growth.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field.
• State certification in school administration or eligibility to obtain certification.
• 3-5 years of experience in special education, preferably with autism.
• 3 years in education management or leadership.
• Experience developing IEPs and behavior plans.
• Knowledge of evidence-based autism practices.
• Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Principal in administration and management of the school.
• Supervise instructional programs and evaluate lesson plans.
• Participate in annual review meetings.
• Supervise and mentor teachers and support staff.
• Promote positive school culture and social-emotional learning.
• Collaborate with therapists and educators for annual reviews and hearings.
• Monitor student progress and data-driven interventions.
• Assist with scheduling, resource allocation, and operations.
• Ensure compliance with special education regulations.
• Engage with parents and stakeholders.
• Handle disciplinary matters with restorative practices.
• Participate in school events and professional development.
