Job summary

Gersh Autism in West Hempstead, NY seeks a full-time Intervention Specialist to support behavioral, emotional, and academic needs of students aged 5-21. The role emphasizes crisis intervention, documentation, and collaboration with families and teachers within a year-round school program.

Responsibilities include crisis prevention and intervention, ensuring safety, observing student behavior, and contributing to team meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Certification in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention preferred.
• Previous experience with crisis intervention with school age students required.
• Excellent writing and organizational skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Observe, manage, evaluate, and document all aspects of student behavioral issues and crisis interventions.
• Assess and maintain a functional environment for the intervention.
• Ensure highest level of Care, Welfare, Safety, and Security throughout all phases.
• Collaborate with classroom staff and service providers on proactive strategies.
• Utilize intervention techniques to deescalate crises and protect students and staff.
