Job summary

Gersh Autism in West Hempstead, NY seeks a compassionate Behavior Technician (Paraprofessional) to support students with autism in academic and behavioral settings. You will assist with IEP/BIP implementation, provide one-on-one and small group support, and help students with daily tasks while collaborating with teachers and behavior specialists.

Growth opportunities include completing the RBT course to advance within the behavior team and contribute to developing behavior intervention

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience with children or autism is a plus but not required.
• Desire to support students with autism and other developmental disabilities.
• Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom teacher in implementing IEPs and BIPs.
• Provide one-on-one and small group support to students.
• Help students with daily tasks: communication, social interaction, self-management.
• Prepare students and materials for activities and transitions.
• Support students during classroom activities and field trips.
• Document data on student performance and progress toward goals.
• Collaborate with teachers and behavioral specialists to maintain a positive learning environment.
• Communicate progress and challenges to staff.
• Participate in daily training with behavioral analysts.
