Job summary

Gersh Autism in West Hempstead, NY is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to serve as the Primary Educator for our students in a year‑round school program. You will lead daily instruction, communicate with families, and tailor lessons to each student’s IEP goals.

The role requires NY State Teaching Certification, a Bachelor’s degree (Master's preferred), and experience with ADHD/LD/HFA. Collaboration with BCBA and participation in IEP meetings are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education, special education or related field; professional certification required
• NY State Teaching Certification is required
• Experience with ADHD, LD, HFA or related disabilities preferred
• Applied Behavioral Analysis experience preferred
• Experience in assessment and report writing preferred

Responsibilities

• Lead daily instructional programs to drive student achievement in school
• Communicate with parents/caretakers to ensure student participation
• Access trainings and utilize digital platforms and tools for instruction
• Develop daily/weekly lesson plans aligned with IEP goals
• Maintain attendance and document progress toward objectives
• Attend CSE/IEP meetings and update IEPs/goals as needed
• Coach and mentor families to support daily learning
• Prepare resources and materials for lessons
• Monitor student participation and progress
• Report progress to supervisor and BCBA
• Perform other duties as assigned
