Gersh Autism in West Hempstead, NY is seeking a Physical Therapist to work in a school setting, providing targeted therapy to students aged 5-21. The role emphasizes strength, balance, and activity improvement within a collaborative educational team.

Responsibilities include creating IEPs, implementing therapy plans, and coordinating with families. Travel to other Gersh locations may be required; schedule runs 8:00 AM–3:30 PM with a once-weekly 4:00 PM meeting.

Qualifications

• MA/Doctorate in Physical Therapy required.
• Active license to practice in New York State.
• At least 2 years of experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Sensory Processing and CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a team.

Responsibilities

• Develop IEPs for each student and collaborate with the educational team to implement them.
• Use specialized techniques to help students overcome physical limitations.
• Create and maintain a safe, positive therapeutic environment for students.
• Collaborate with parents and families to ensure continuity of care.
• Coordinate with Gersh Autism staff to provide integrated services.
• Regularly evaluate and adjust treatment plans based on progress.
