IMS Care Center in Phoenix, AZ seeks an Authorization Supervisor for the Cardiology Department. This role oversees referrals/authorization activities, submits insurance authorizations, and coordinates scheduling with medical staff to ensure timely patient care.

Ideal candidates have 2–3 years in referrals/verification and at least 1 year in a supervisory role, with strong attention to detail and excellent communication.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of experience processing referrals and/or insurance verification.
• At least 1 year of supervisor experience.
• Athena EMR experience preferred.
• Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT codes and insurance claim requirements.

Responsibilities

• Submits authorization requests to insurance for clinic services.
• Manages ancillary schedules to ensure tests are approved before patient arrival.
• Coordinates physician clinic/procedure schedules with RFA/Procedure schedulers.
• Verifies demographics, referral and insurance info for new and established patients.
• Prepares 7–14 days ahead of insurance verification and liabilities.
• Reschedules appointments/tests if needed due to insurance.
• Reviews patient coverage and computes charges to be paid by patient.
• Answers incoming calls and routes to appropriate staff.
• Supervise Referrals/Authorization staff to ensure accuracy.

IMS Care Center is searching for a professional, compassionate and knowledgeable individual to fill the position Authorization Supervisor in our Cardiology Department. The Authorization Supervisor will be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks including submitting authorization requests for procedures, answering phones, scheduling, outgoing referral management, and coordinating with the patient to make sure they make their appointments The Authorization Supervisor will also be responsible for supervising the Referrals/Authorization staff and maintaining high standards of accuracy. Instill the IMS mission, vision and values in the work performed.

Responsibilities

• Submits authorization requests to insurance for ancillary services performed in the clinic


• Manages ancillary schedules to ensure all tests/procedures are approved to be performed before the patient arrives for testing


• Coordinates and manages physician clinic/procedure schedules with the RFA/Procedure schedulers


• Verifies demographics, referral, and insurance info of new patients, testing, and established patient


• Prep 7-14 days before verifying insurance/outstanding liabilities/medical documentation/informing patients of copay and deductibles


• Re-schedules appointments/tests/procedures if needed due to insurance


• Reviews and verifies patient coverage of insurance or other agencies and computes the charges to be paid by the patient


• Answer all incoming calls and resolve the issues or route calls to the appropriate staff


• Other referral and verification duties as needed for the smooth workflow and patient care


• Knowledgeable in insurance(s) and authorization processes


• Supervise the Referrals/Authorization staff to ensure referrals are processed accurately


• Identify opportunities to improve performance and workflows


• Implements eligibility verification as part of the referral/authorization process


• Maximizes usage of on-line tools for authorizations and to support other procedures and processes


• Ensures all pertinent information and tests are sent/uploaded to insurance carriers


• Follow through with pending referrals/Authorizations in a timely manner


• Takes accurate phone messages for referrals/authorization needs


• Answers internal messages sent to the referral/Authorization department in a timely manner


• Assists with new employee orientation and training as appropriate


• Completes mandatory in-services education


• Hours may vary and be outside of normal office hours


• Healthcare experience is required**

Education And Experience

• Minimum 2-3 years’ experience processing referrals and/or insurance verification required


• At least 1 year of supervisor experience required


• Athena EMR preferred


• Previous experience with Athena system a plus

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT codes, and insurance carriers’ claim requirements
