Job summary

Berkshire Health Systems in Pittsfield, MA is seeking a Billing Specialist responsible for selected fiscal aspects of scheduled/registered accounts to prepare billing, assure maximum payment, and maintain accurate history files.

You will obtain authorizations to avoid denials, respond to appeals, handle inquiries from patients, families, providers, and payers, and advocate for self-pay patients while ensuring timely third-party reimbursement and confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Three years experience in a hospital admitting/billing office.
• Expert knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and Blue Cross.
• Three years experience with Meditech and/or AllScripts scheduling/registration.
• Two years of college (business/health) or equivalent work experience.
• Strong typing ability (40 wpm) and PC skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accounts for billing to maximize payment on a timely basis.
• Review selected scheduled/registered patients to ensure solid reimbursement.
• Obtain authorizations to avoid insurance denials and respond to appeals.
• Handle inquiries from patients, payers, and staff and maintain confidentiality.
