Job description

Audio-Visual Technician – Special Events

Provide leadership in audio-visual setup for special events and performances, including management, care, and storage of sound, light, and theatrical equipment for city-sponsored activities such as Arts in the Parks, Summer Fete, and private functions.

1. Assist with setup and takedown of audio systems, including speakers, microphones, cables, mixers, movie equipment, staging, and more.
2. Assist with setup, programming, running, and takedown of lighting equipment as needed.
3. Actively prepare and plan for events by following directions from the Audio/Visual Coordinator regarding sound and stage needs for various performance groups and events.
4. Provide input on repair and maintenance needs of sound and lighting equipment, as well as other equipment.
5. Attend all trainings and meetings.
6. Assist with transportation and return of equipment to various locations.
7. Support the execution of special events in various capacities as needed and assigned.
8. Represent the City of Bloomington professionally at all times.

Minimum Qualifications

• Two years of experience working with sound and/or lighting equipment.
• Ability to provide physical assistance with stage and equipment setup.
• Interest in working in the cultural arts sector.
• Valid MN Driver's License and ability to transport equipment as needed.
• Ability to work a varied schedule, including evenings and occasional weekends.

Desired Qualifications

• Five or more years of experience working with A/V equipment in a live sound environment.
• Additional experience in various settings or special events.
• Recreational programming experience.

Position to begin late May, with some flexibility in start date. Job duties will take place at Bloomington Civic Plaza, the Normandale Lake Bandshell, and other venues throughout Bloomington.
