Job summary

Center for Justice Innovation in New York, NY seeks an Attorney-in-Charge to oversee the Community Justice Connect program, supervise Program Managers across Connect sites in Jamaica, Brooklyn, and the South Bronx, and provide civil legal expertise to volunteers and staff.

You will ensure accurate legal information, coordinate training, and collaborate with partners to advance housing and benefits initiatives, while maintaining program standards and grant reporting requirements.

Qualifications

• J.D. and active New York State Bar with 3–5 years of civil legal systems navigation experience, including housing, benefits, family justice, consumer debt or immigration.
• 1 year+ supervisory experience preferred.
• Strong leadership, managerial, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal expertise to the Community Justice Connect project, offering support and guidance to volunteers and staff.
• Oversee civil legal training for program volunteers and staff, including accessible educational resources.
• Act as primary contact for Connect staff and volunteers on legal matters arising from visitor issues, with knowledge of civil law affecting low-income residents.
• Provide brief legal advice to visitors on civil areas of law such as eviction, benefits termination, child support and custody.
• Collaborate with Housing Justice Initiatives to align housing strategies with the broader mission; identify new funding sources and initiatives.
• Oversee program budgeting, fundraising support, and coordination with DAAR team for reporting and compliance.
• Develop procedures to track and meet program deliverables and ensure high-quality service across sites.
