Job summary

City of Elgin seeks an Athletic Manager to provide leadership and oversight of the Athletic Division, including programs, leagues, events, facilities, financial operations, and staff. The role supervises two full-time Athletic Supervisors and oversees part-time and seasonal personnel.

The position requires strategic planning, facility and business operations, fiscal management, staff development, community partnerships, safety, and customer service, with hands-on leadership to support programs

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Management or related field.
• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in athletic or recreation program management.
• At least two years in a supervisory or leadership role.
• Experience managing sports facilities, leagues, and staff teams.
• First Aid, CPR, and AED certification (or ability to obtain within six months).
• Valid driver’s license.
• Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and planning for athletic programs and facilities.
• Manage a comprehensive portfolio of programs, leagues, classes, camps, and events.
• Oversee daily operations of athletic facilities and coordinate with maintenance.
• Assist with budgets, revenue generation, and financial reporting.
• Supervise full-time staff and assist with part-time/seasonal personnel.
• Develop partnerships with schools, community groups, and stakeholders.
• Lead marketing and outreach efforts to grow participation.
• Ensure safety, accessibility, and regulatory compliance.
