Job summary

Altria Group is seeking an Associate Specialist, HR and Labor Relations at the Manufacturing Center in Richmond, VA to provide onsite support, coordination and execution of day‑to‑day HR, labor, and employee relations processes for all core businesses across our manufacturing facilities.

The role includes handling grievances, collaborating with Leave Management and HR Direct on wage actions, and partnering with analytics and payroll teams to support organizational health and labor initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field.
  • At least two years of related HR/Labor Relations experience preferred.
  • SHRM-CP credential preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the main point of contact for walk-in traffic and provide high-quality customer service.
  • Advise on grievances, disputes, contract provisions, benefits, and HR self-service.
  • Administer grievance processes, schedule meetings, and coordinate with management and union leadership.
  • Establish and manage electronic document systems for grievances and related docs.
  • Collaborate with Leave Management and medical dept to resolve leaves-related issues.
  • Coordinate wage-related requirements and pay adjustments with HR Direct.

Job description

Associate Specialist, HR and Labor Relations

Join our Human Resources team at the Manufacturing Center in Richmond, VA to provide onsite support, coordination and execution of day‑to‑day HR, labor, and employee relations processes for all core businesses across our manufacturing facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the main point of contact for all walk‑in traffic at the Manufacturing Center, providing high‑quality customer service and acting as a liaison to connect employees to the best resources for resolving all matters.
  • Interact with manufacturing employees on HR and Labor Relations processes, answering questions and providing advice on grievances, disputes, routine contract provisions, benefits, and HR Central self‑service.
  • Administer the grievance process, including classifying and recording grievances in the tracker, scheduling meetings, and coordinating with management, security, and union leadership as required.
  • Establish and manage a new electronic document management system for all grievances, arbitrations, memorandums of understanding, etc.
  • Partner with the Leave Management team and the onsite medical department to resolve issues related to leaves of absence, including restrictions and accommodation requests.
  • Collaborate with HR Direct to process wage‑related requirements such as COLA increases, general wage increases, rate progression administration, and pay adjustments.
  • Support the planning and execution of core HR initiatives (Talent Planning, Org Review, I&D/Culture, Employee Engagement) and Labor Relations activities (Contract Negotiations and Arbitrations).
  • Partner with People Analytics to generate periodic organizational health reports and analysis for manufacturing leadership, covering separations, leaves of absence, disciplinary action, grievances, engagement survey results, etc.
  • Partner with the PM USA Training and Communications team and other stakeholders for onboarding of salaried and hourly positions.
  • Assist with or perform other labor and HR‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field desired and/or equivalent experience.
  • Working understanding of HR and Labor Relations processes and procedures; at least two years of related experience preferred.
  • SHRM‑CP credential preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee information and exercise extreme discretion while adhering to compliance procedures.
  • Highest levels of integrity and good judgment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with ability to build and manage relationships to influence and collaborate effectively.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent time‑management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to function well in a fast‑paced, stressful environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, SAP, Success Factors, Workbrain, or related time‑and‑attendance software.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer, and standing on the floor of a manufacturing environment.
  • Required to work on‑site at the Manufacturing Center and Park 500 and during other shifts to support manufacturing efforts.
  • Ability to travel to out‑of‑state company facilities and for other company business as needed (estimated 15% or less).
