Job summary

Hospice of Marion County, part of Empath Health, is seeking an Associate Medical Director to lead medical services in Ocala and Marion County. The role focuses on symptom control, care planning, and collaboration with the care team to deliver compassionate end-of-life care aligned with Empath Health's mission.

The ideal candidate holds an MD/DO, Florida license, board certification in a related specialty, and active DEA registration, with 2+ years of direct clinical experience and preferred

• MD or DO from an accredited medical school and board certification in a related specialty.
• Active Florida medical license to practice medicine.
• Minimum of two years’ direct clinical medical care experience.
• Certificate in Palliative Medicine strongly preferred.
• Hospital staff privileges at local hospitals are preferred.
• Current Federal DEA registration.
• CPR certification required if patient-facing.

Responsibilities

• Promotes Empath Health mission and adheres to policies.
• Provides symptom control and coordinates treatments with APRN/RN during in-person visits.
• Collaborates with care team to develop and implement care plans.
• Partners with attending physicians to update care plans and deliver direct medical services.
• Acts as medical resource and educator on admission criteria and end-of-life care.
• Complies with Florida DOH requirements and regulatory standards.

Job description

Hospice of Marion County, a part of Empath Health is seeking a caring and motivated Associate Medical Director to join the Empath team. Since 1983, Hospice of Marion County has been honored to serve families across Ocala and Marion County with compassionate, expert end-of-life care. As part of Empath Health, we help neighbors with advanced illness live as comfortably and meaningfully as possible, while supporting their families and caregivers with respect, guidance, and dignity.

What you'll Do:

• Promotes and practices the Empath Health mission, vision and values and follows all policies and procedures.
• Provides symptom control expertise and communicates with the APRN and/or RN to evaluate and initiate treatments for pain/symptom management. This is primarily completed through in person visits.
• Collaborates with team members, including other clinical staff members to create and implement the appropriate plan of care.
• Collaborates with the patient’s attending physician as needed to develop and update the patient’s plan of care, ensure the provision of direct medical services to ensure pain and symptom management.
• Serves as a medical resource and educator to staff, patients, families and attending physicians regarding admission criteria, pain and symptom control management, and end of life care.
• Adheres to the Florida Department of Health requirements, as well as legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements. meetings as assigned, collaborating closely with the Clinical Director and other disciplines with a team approach to ensure that the medical needs of the patient are met.
• Actively participates in IDG meetings as assigned, collaborating closely with other disciplines with a team approach to ensure that the medical needs of the patient are met.
• May be required to make face-to face visits within an Empath Health In-Patient facility or in patient’s residence (home or community facility), and/or perform clinical visits via telehealth.

What You'll Need

• M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited medical school and Board Certified in a related specialty.
• Current Florida license to practice medicine issued pursuant to Florida Statute 458 or 459.
• Minimum of two (2) years’ recent active practice with direct clinical medical care experience.
• Certification in Palliative Medicine strongly preferred.
• Hospital staff privileges at one or more hospitals commonly serving patients in the service area strongly preferred.
• Current Federal DEA registration.
• Valid CPR Certification required if patient facing.
