Job summary

Tidewell Hospice and Suncoast Hospice, members of Empath Health, are seeking a Medical Director to lead hospice care delivery across Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee and Sarasota counties. The role provides clinical oversight of physicians and advanced practice providers, promoting quality, compliance, and patient-centered care.

Board-certified physician with Florida license, DEA, and CPR credentials; minimum 5 years of direct clinical care; leadership experience preferred.

Qualifications

• MD/DO degree from an accredited medical school and board certification in a related specialty.
• Current Florida medical license valid under Florida Statute 458 or 459.
• Board certification in Palliative Medicine strongly preferred.
• DEA registration current at federal level.
• CPR certification valid for patient-facing roles.

Responsibilities

• Oversee hospice medical care across multiple locations.
• Lead and develop a high-performing medical team with coaching and evaluation.
• Provide education on hospice/palliative care practices to staff and physicians.
• Act as medical resource on admission criteria, pain/symptom control, and end-of-life care.
• Participate in budget planning, monitoring and adherence.
• Coordinate IDG activities and direct patient care as needed.

Job description

Tidewell Hospice and Suncoast Hospice, members of Empath Health, is seeking a Medical Director to serve as the clinical leader for hospice care delivery, providing oversight to physicians and advanced practice providers across multiple locations. This role champions quality, compliance, patient-centered care, and community partnerships while supporting compassionate end-of-life care for patients and their families. Since 1980, Tidewell Hospice has proudly served families across southwest Florida with compassionate, dignified care. Since 1977, Suncoast Hospice has been honored to serve our neighbors across Pinellas and Hillsborough counties with compassionate end-of-life care. What you’ll Do:

• Will support Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee, and Sarasota counties.
• Promotes and practices the Empath Health mission, vision and values and follows all policies and procedures.
• Leads and develops a high performing team by providing guidance, coaching, feedback and evaluation of performance on an ongoing basis.
• Provides education to staff on hospice and palliative care practices, policies, and procedures.
• Serves as a medical resource and educator to hospice staff, patients, families and attending physicians regarding admission criteria, pain and symptom control management, and end of life hospice/palliative care.
• Responsible for budget planning, monitoring, and adherence.
• Conducts hospice pre-election evaluation and counseling services as requested and collaborates with colleagues and attending physicians to certify patient meets admission criteria based upon available diagnostic and prognostic indicators.
• May be required to provide direct patient care as needed including but not limited to participating in IDG, visiting patients in person, and liaising with patient family members as appropriate.
• Other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need

• M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited medical school and Board Certified in a related specialty.
• Current Florida license to practice medicine issued pursuant to Florida Statute 458 or 459.
• Minimum of two (5) years’ recent active practice with direct clinical medical care experience.
• Certification in Palliative Medicine strongly preferred.
• Prior leadership experience of at least two years strongly preferred.
• Hospital staff privileges at one or more hospitals commonly serving patients in the service area strongly preferred.
• Current Federal DEA registration.
• Valid CPR Certification required if patient facing.
