Job summary

McKinstry is seeking an Associate Mechanical Engineer for our New Construction team in the Pacific Northwest. The role focuses on engineering, design, and coordination of large‑scale projects with preconstruction, detailing, and field teams to deliver high‑performance mechanical systems.

You will work on DBOM processes to ensure long‑term operation and efficiency, joining a collaborative team in Spokane with a hybrid schedule.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering; PE preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in engineering design with at least 3 years in project and people management.
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams on complex, multi‑discipline projects.
  • Load calculation experience through IES VE, Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, Elite CHVAC, or equivalent.
  • Advanced knowledge of Revit and Bluebeam.
  • Onsite construction experience highly preferred.
  • Master's degree and LEED/WELL accreditation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manages a team of engineers across multiple projects.
  • Coordinate between internal design, construction, and cross‑functional teams.
  • Proactively identify and secure resource needs to meet deadlines and quality standards.
  • Mentor and develop lead and project engineers.
  • Own project correspondence, issue tracking, decisions, and direction.
  • Define, communicate, and manage scope and design process with minimal oversight.
  • Lead design meetings and coordinate with customers and external stakeholders.
  • Drive process improvements and cost‑saving design strategies.
