Job summary

New Mexico Higher Education Department is seeking an Associate IT Systems Administrator to support end-users and collaborate with the IT team to ensure availability and security of systems.

The role requires a technical background, strong communication, and the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment, with duties spanning hands-on and remote assistance, hardware/software management, and security compliance.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in CS/MIS/IT/Engineering, or related field; two years of end-user support, systems or network experience.
  • Alternative: total of four years education/experience may substitute for the required education/experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on and remote technical assistance to end-users by troubleshooting hardware, software and network issues
  • Installation, configuration and updating hardware components and software applications
  • Conduct routine maintenance tasks, updates and patches to ensure systems are secure and up to date

Why does the job exist?

The purpose of this position is to provide support to end-users and contribute to the strategic growth and success of the Higher Education Department (HED). This position will work closely with the IT Systems Administrator to ensure that all user-related services remain available and secure.

Duties for this position include:

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Professional IT experience
  • High level technical support
  • Ability to multitask
  • Strong and effective communication skills

Associate Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in end user support, systems administration, network administration, or any related field. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT); requires sitting in front of VDT for extended periods of time; work in cramped spaces and positions; close exposure to CRT's, VDT's and UV rays. Stress associated with working in a high ticket volume environment, being able to deal with the constant traffic of user problems and system breakdowns. Requires the ability to reach above the head; lift up to 50 pounds. Requires the use of manual dexterity while operating a computer keyboard.
