Job summary

New Mexico Public Education Department seeks an IT/Network Administrator in Santa Fe to manage and support a multi-platform environment. The role focuses on on-site technical support, network maintenance, and data-driven planning for enterprise systems.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Maintain network hardware and software, analyze problems, and monitor the network to ensure availability to system users.
  • Gather data to identify customer needs and evaluate system and network requirements.
  • Ensure the design of the organization's computer site allows all components to fit together and work properly.
  • Support NM Public Education Department computer users and customers.

Why does the job exist?

This position will be responsible for prioritizing limited technical resources to address complex high-profile situations and competing / conflicting advanced technical issues. Makes significant, autonomous decisions that impact a wide range of multiplatform integrated systems under broad supervisory guidelines. Operates within broad strategic guidelines. Decisions have a significant enterprise-wide operational impact that can span multiple agencies and may be difficult or impossible to reverse (i.e., mistakes would create extensive damage and require significant rebuilding and restoration.) Many decisions rendered in unique, unplanned, and unpredictable circumstances with a significant, complex engineering, planning, and integration at the cutting edge of new technology. Involves comprehensive, highly specialized technical research, policy interpretation, and discerning the intent of high-level regulatory guidance.

  • Gather data to identify customer needs and then use that information to identify, interpret, and evaluate system and network requirements.
  • Ensures the design of the organization's computer site allows all components, including computers, network, and software, to fit together and work properly.
Who are the customers?

Technical support for all NM Public Education Department computer users.

Ideal Candidate
  • Proficient on Windows Operating Systems including Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows Server 2012, 2012, 2016, 2019 and 2025.
  • Proficient on Cisco switches, configuration and Maintenance.
  • Proficient on Cisco ASA Firewall Configuration and Maintenance.
  • Experience on F5 Load Balancer.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in network administration. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico's Driver's License.

Working Conditions

Work is usually performed in an office setting, with extensive exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), personal computer, electronics, circuit boards, processors, chips and telephone usage.

Bargaining Unit Position

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement and all terms/conditions of that agreement apply and must be adhered to.
